Now 2 years in it’s become something you’re very passionate about and you’re are now competing at it or you want to.
Your level isn’t great but you love it and enjoy taking part. That’s great but you would like to be better? And you’re not sure where you’re going wrong. I would like you to know you are not on your own. The world is filled with athletes who get to this level and struggle to make the grade. The good news is I have been there, I know what you need to do to join the elite!
To take make it to the top of the ladder you will need to look at every part of your living. I’m going to break this down into your, lifestyle, aptitude, training regime and clothing. The biggest mistake most athletes make is working on the wrong parts. Which is why they never get the results they are seeking.
How to train for an ultimate finish.
You’re quite a long way, away from the finish but you’re now heading in the right direction. Lets take a look at what your first task should be:
This section will cover how you sleep, eat, work and train. This is a big part of your success and needs to be followed correctly. I’m hoping you have a good sleeping pattern in place, where you get approximately 6 – 8 hours sleep per night. This will make sure your body has had adequate restoration time. Your nutrition is constantly being scrutinized to match your bodies requirement.
Your breakfast consists of a high carbohydrate and possibly a pre – workout protein shake. The shake is up to you, I would prefer a post shake to aid recovery and a balance of minerals and salts. Make sure your lunch has a high protein content, don’t forget your vegetables, minerals and carbohydrates.
In between your meals only snack on good stuff, nuts are a great source of protein. Some are higher in fat than others, so chose wisely. I would eat Brazil, Almonds and Walnuts. Train your body to expect this at the same time each day. This is how you re-train your body to work with you and not against you.

You now have a list of what you should be eating but you’re an athlete, so we need a little more. I have always found that in most cases, the requirements of an athlete is never taken into consideration. During our training regime we burn more calories than the average person. Because of this we might need to consume more calories. The chart below will help you further.
One of your biggest enemies that will sabotage your success is YOU! Your mind needs to be focused on the task at hand. Nothing should stand between you and your goals. There mustn’t be any negative thoughts about what you need to do and what you’re prepared to go through to get there!
You will require an iron approach to every aspect of your life.
How many times have you started a workout with a certain number or destination in mind. Then at the last moment amend it because it starts to hurt? Be honest! Don’t feel too bad, I’ve done this in the past. The main reason is a lack of preparation, which leads to you trying to find an easy way out.
I have a fix for this and you’re not going to like it. Lets create a scenario that allows me to explain what you need to do. You’ve decided that you’re going to for a 5k run (5 Kilometers – 3.1 Miles) but part way through you start feeling the burn and decide to drop it to a 4k run!
As soon as this type of thought enters your head, STOP! Take a small break and continue with a small adjustment. This is now instead of cutting the distance you were going to run. YOU INCREASE IT BY HALF A MILE! This will help you to become mentally stronger, in everything you do. This is the Ultimate Training Gear way.
To be the part we have to also dress the part. What we wear has a major role in how we perform. I have competed at National and International level. Over the many years I have found, that there’s nothing worse than trying to work while, being distracted by poor fitting sports gear. I have learned that my attire is very important to my performance, so make sure you give this area your attention.

The key to being able to make improvement in your training is to know what needs to be done. I have been pushing you in the direction that I know ill do just that. How does clothing help you win?
This is really a distraction if it doesn’t fit well. I’d go as far as saying that some people can be agitated by the label in the clothing. It might sound funny but it does happen and I’m living proof. Before I try to train or compete in any new clothing I need to take it for a spin. This is so I know exactly how I’m going to feel. Try it and I bet you’ll never buy any training equipment and wear it without testing it out first.
Depending on your sport this could be a variety of garments. But most sports tend to wear a rash guard, this relates to men, women and children. This is a very common garment, which has a lot uses. But when worn it is often against the skin, so any irritation from it is going to cause annoyance. My biggest tip here is always take it for a test run!
