Losing weight can bring you joy or sadness, this will depend on whether you wanted to lose weight or not. Putting on weight unnecessarily can cause depression and that can lead to a lack of confidence. To avoid this you need to know what foods to eat and lose weight.

I have been a sports’ competitor for many years, training, competing and coaching at the highest level possible. I know that it is much easier to keep your weight at a level, opposed to keep trying to lose weight. Lets take a look at where a lot of people go wrong!

What foods to eat and lose weight.

I will start by saying that a majority of us eat for the wrong reasons. A correct reason would be we eat because we are hungry. A wrong reason would be, I’m going to eat because I like the look of that piece of cake!

Fast food is usually the choice of 80% of people, eating this type of food on a regular basis will only lead to you gaining weight.

The reason being it is mass-produced and is very low in vital nutrients that our bodies need. Every meal should be balanced, this means it should contain Protein, Minerals, Vitamins and Minerals. This will ensure that not only are we eating sensibly but we are also eating to be healthy.

Whatever you do never forget the reason why we eat and it isn’t purely because we are hungry. The main reason is to give our bodies the tools it needs to keep us going.

Research what you eat and why?

So the top and bottom of it is we need to eat good food, in small portions. It is not possible to lose weight and remain healthy by skipping meals! Unfortunately, this is the route a lot of people go down, I would advise against this kind of action. It is not practical and your body will not thank you for it. This post will help you to understand what foods to eat and lose weight.  So, please read on.

So take a good look at what you eat and scrutinise it.  Now, Let’s create a plate of food and check each section of it.

  • Proteins. Meat, red or white. Fish and Eggs. If You’re not a vegetarian this is a great source of Protein which is required by our bodies for repair and growth.
  • If you’re a vegetarian then humus, beans and lentils can be used to obtain your essential protein fix.

The partner to Protein is Carbohydrates. The first thing 90% of people wanting to lose weight do is to drop their carbs (Carbohydrate) in take.

This is a big mistake because our bodies needs Protein and Carbs to chemically burn each other. Now I’ve personally played with this theory and the only outcome was a feeling of being tired and lethargic.

My conclusion is to eat a smaller portion of carbs, as part of a healthy balanced diet.

The power of good food – energize your body.

Vitamins and Minerals also play a very important role in keeping healthy. The words I always remember here is, you need to eat your greens! I’m a big fan of all my greens, well that’s not quite true! I hate the smell and taste of celery and unfortunately, that’s a feeling that won’t be changing anytime soon.

But there’re many ways to skin a cat!  There’s so much food to choose from and because I’m all about the good stuff, I’ll find something else that does exactly the same but taste better!

It’s that simple, if you’re serious about losing weight minimize your exposure to fast foods and fuel up on good foods. Your focus should be on what foods to eats and lose weight. Let these thoughts guide you through every meal choice.

Making good choices – enjoy life.

We live in a very large world full of lots of foods from many countries. I would really hate to live in a world where I couldn’t eat what I wanted to. So here’s your life line:

  • Never miss breakfast.
  • Snack on fruit and natural unsweetened nuts.
  • Enjoy lunch, in fact eat like a king.
  • Be sensible with your last meal of the day.

There it is, in a nut shell. Eat small portions of Protein, Carbohydrates, Vitamins and Minerals. The amount you consume shouldn’t be more than 200 calories for women and 250 for men. This is purely for guidance, more importantly I would say keep listening to your body. Change your life style to lose weight and start enjoying your life.

Your body needs you and you need your body, eat sensibly.

Knowing good food from bad food!

All foods were not created equal. When you eat you automatically get a feeling of fulfilment. Your tummy feels full and you feel content. The only problem here is fast foods have nothing but high calories and nothing in the way of good nutrients that our bodies require.

In most cases you can get away with eating small portions of what you like. This could mean your favourite cake, chocolate or even your favourite tipple. But not when your food contains no nutritional value.

Foods to eat.

I would like to start with Protein which is an essential part of our diet and is responsible for our growth and repair.

  • Chicken.
  • Steak.
  • Fish.
  • Nuts. (Some can by high in fats.)
  • Beans.
  • Beef.

My next stop is at Carbohydrates, I tend to refer to carbs as the partner of Protein. This is simply because your body requires both components to efficiently break down each component.

  • Pasta.
  • Rice.
  • Potato.

So the choice is all up to you, you can lose weight but only if you stay dedicated to the cause.

I would like to thank you for taking the time to read my post on what foods to eat and lose weight. I hope you have found the answers you were looking for and more importantly actioned what you have read.

  1. On point! Surely, most people would want to stay fit or at least trim fats and sadly, most of them are doing it wrong. I was once a victim of a bad diet. Believe me, it didn’t make me feel good. I always felt deprived of good things around me. Though I’m not a fan of fast food myself, I always like eating great food. I mean I’m a good cook in the house, why should I make myself suffer? Indeed, I lost weight with my diet but I didn’t look young, rejuvenated and fresh.

At present, I cook and enjoy my food with the rest of the family. Rice is a staple part of our diet at home but I educate my kids to eat less of it. In fact my daughter would only eat a heap or a tablespoon and nothing more. At school, her classmates would ask why she only eats a small portion of rice, when their mums would tell them to finish everything (like a cup). She’s happy I’m not forcing her. I am also glad that they like their greens as much as I do. Yes I am not as thin as I was before but I feel great knowing that I enjoy eating good food. Thanks for this article, it tells us to live healthy by eating right.

    1. Missus B.  It sounds like you’ve got your hands full and it’s great to hear your children are eating their greens.  That in it’s self is great I hope that doesn’t change!  That’s a great foundation for a healthy life.

  2. I totally agree with you that skipping meals doesn’t serve as a guarantee that one would definitely lose weight and I have engaged in some of these diet plans before that would present a compulsion for one to lose weight is by missing meals. Well! Some worked for some weeks and stopped while some didn’t at all. So I stopped falling for all those craps and going by what I read in this post, this is a very informative post. The foods you have suggested and how to go about them, I will definitely incorporate into my diet plan daily. Meanwhile, I think carbs is generally good but feeding in processed carbs is the problem here. Great article and I love it.

    1. Hello Tracy. Thank you for your time and comment.  When it comes to losing weight missing meals isn’t ever the best solution.  My advice is always change your lifestyle and change your weight!

  3. Wow, how helpful can this get, I am currently on a keto diet that tries to minimise carbs and upholds taking in protein. This way, the increment of weight is minimised to a minimum. I like the way you have outlined what to eat and what not to. I’ll be sure to keep what you have said in mind and see how rapidly my weight can get on. I know it’ll take some consistency and I’m ready for that. Thank  you.

    1. Hey.  Thank you for your input.  Losing weight can be easy but most people make it hard, I’m always glad to help and I feel even better when my work is appreciated.

  4. I love this as I have been struggling with my nutrition lately. Not eating breakfast like I should , but not so good on not eating late at night since I like to enjoy my food once my little ones are down for the evening. Love the breakdown of the different areas of food and why they are important for us.

Thanks for motivating me to eat better. Just grabbing my nuts to munch on.
