Exercise is very important for developing and maintaining good health.
What type of exercise is best?
Exercise comes in many ways, for us to stay fit and healthy our exercise routine should target our heart, lungs and our flexibility. There’s a lot we can do to make ourselves fitter, we can make sure we eat well. A balanced nutritional meal is a great boost to any fitness programme.
But that’s just dealing with the fuel that our bodies need. Your age is always a major factor when it comes to certain exercise, so lets explore the various types.
- Cross training.
- Yoga.
- Running.
- Swimming.
- Tai Chi.
Cross training – the choice for variety.
There’s a lot of variety rolled into cross training. If you think of all the different sports that you’ve come across and all the different health benefits they all offer, then add them together and that’s where the term cross – training comes from.
The sports in question are usually aerobic and anaerobic exercises. There’s quite a few to choose from but lets use running, skipping or martial arts. All of these could be done at home or you could get a gym membership, if you struggle to achieve a good workout at home. Do remember what you’re trying to achieve and what your limits are – we all have them and we should understand what they are so we can achieve the best results from ourselves.
Yoga – balancing your mind, body and soul.
Choosing the right exercise program that’s right for you is the true key to success. Yoga can be done by
anyone and the health benefits are quite amazing. It comprises of stretching, breathing, balancing and meditative techniques, all of which can improve your physical health and well-being.
Basic yoga poses.
- Downward facing dog.
- Plank.
- Triangle.
- Tree.
- Warrior.
You don’t have to be super flexible to participate but you do need to be injury free, in regard to your joints, to really make great achievements. Participating in Yoga will help your body to relax, teach you how to control your breathing and improve your energy outputs.
Can exercise improve your physical health.
I would advise you to choose a good teacher in this art and take small steps in the beginning to achieve greater goals later on.
Running – the choice of millions.
Running is a fantastic way to get fit and millions of people participate in running in a variety of ways. This is either done in doors on a treadmill or on the public roads or parks.
Anyone can participate in running but you ideally should be of a good weight and have no joint issues, especially ankles, hips or knees. I’ve written a post about running previously but my target was focused on wearing the correct running shoes to minimise the risk of joint damage.
Swimming – for fitness and life.
I’m not a big swimmer but that doesn’t mean it’s not a great form of exercise. This form of exercise can be done by anyone and so much to the point that we all learn it at school as part of the school curriculum. If you’re overweight or have any joint issues, swimming is a good way to get fit while managing any issue you might have.
Participating in this form of exercise is easy and relatively cheap. Regardless of the health benefits, everyone should learn to swim, so swimming is a must regardless of your fitness goals. If you’re really good at it, then you probably should think of competing in it. We all have our calling and if you haven’t found yours yet, this could be it.
Tai Chi – the gentle art.
Martial arts as always targeted the body and mind, with fitness and health leading the way, it can come in many forms. Even though a lot of styles is about combat, it’s true essence is about health. This post started by asking the question, “Can exercise improve your physical health“? The answer at this point would be a resounding yes!
All the different types of exercise I have focused on, have a massive ability to help you shape your mind and body but none more so than Tai Chi.
It focuses on your body by teaching you how to move, breathe, build, maintain your life’s energy. This is known as your Chi or in some styles of martial arts it’s called your Ki and control somebody else’s body weight and at the same time teaches you how to connect with your every breath.
To participate, better still master this amazing art would deliver you health benefits you could only dream of. Again my advice would be, if you decide this is for you, please find someone who is highly skilled in this art form. Someone who is able to teach you everything that this art form as to offer.
The healthy conclusion to can exercise improve your physical health.
Food is our main source of energy, we require energy for our bodies to function at their optimum level. Our daily routine comprises of work, rest and play. Without the right type of food and regular exercise our bodies would not be able to sustain the demands that we make on it, on a daily basis.
So taking regular exercise will improve our physical being and increase the way our bodies perform every routine. We will benefit from any physical exercise we do, even a little stroll can reap massive rewards for our health. So my final words would be, when it comes down to exercise, any form of exercise done on a regular/daily basis will contribute to your physical and mental well-being.

Best wishes for a fitter, healthier you.
Maintaining perfect health is important and you should be grateful if the cost you have to be spending on your healthcare isn’t out of the ordinary. In order to keep yourself in good shape both physically and mentally, you need to exercise often. Personally, I go about his by finding the time during the week days to run in the mornings. On weekends, I do yoga and I swim. I find swimming very calming as it helps me release the pent up stress deep inside me.
I am of the opinion that exercise can improve ones physical health because I have been there and its been very helpful to me over time. Lack of exercise can make the body muscles be weak and can affect the general performance of an individual. Exercising can help build you in so many ways ranging form building balance and fitness. Most importantly, the mind of the individual. Best regards.
Exercise can do more than a lot for us and also help to improve both our physical and mental health. A lot of people do not realise it but the ones that have realised it have learnt to dedicate their life to it. Getting the right exercises would help to manage both the mind and the body to stay at the peak. Helping you do better than the ordinary man. Ensuring the achievement of something better. Yoga, Tai Chi are all just great with different health benefits.
I agree with you that the type of exercises we do will determine as well. I am looking to start doing yoga because apart from the physical benefits that it gives the body, it also has some spiritual ones as well. I have never heard of Tai Chi as a type of exercise. I only thought that it was something in the movies. This is worth sharing. I have learnt from this and I will try the routine you have here for yoga. Thanks.
You are very right when you say that physical exercise benefits health. I had a period when my weight was well above normal. It was too difficult for me to maintain my diet and I don’t think diet alone can greatly reduce body weight. I couldn’t move anymore. I solved the amount of daily food, but the most important thing I did was to make an effort with a weight belt. I was wearing a belt for hours daily. The first improvement was that I could move. Now physical exercises are endless in my life.
Thanks for taking the time to read and comment on my post. Keep up the good work.
